Highway to Heaven (2011) is a thirty-minute monologue, stand-up routine, and karaoke performance detailing my own inadvertent fandom of Christian heavy metal as a teenager in Northern Michigan. Focusing on bands from Christian metal label Solid State Records, I narrate the experience I had listening to these bands and then my adolescent crisis upon discovering, through eventual access to the Internet, that their indecipherable lyrics were all paying tribute to Jesus Christ.
Originally performed at The Cake Shop in New York City and was curated by Nadia Buyse. A secondary performance took place in Portland, OR at Worksound Gallery for an evening of performance called FALLOUT curated by Stephen Slappe.
